State Bank of India (SBI) has urged its customers to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar number to avoid any inconvenience and continue to enjoy uninterrupted banking services. “We advise our customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience and continue to enjoy a seamless banking service.” State Bank Of India tweeted.
SBI further warned its account holders that if the two documents are not linked, the PAN will become inoperative/inoperative and cannot be quoted for carrying out the specified transaction.
PAN-Aadhaar linkage deadline
In September, the government extended the deadline for linking PAN with biometric ID Aadhaar by six months till March 2022.
“The deadline for intimation of Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department for linking PAN with Aadhaar has been extended from September 30, 2021 to March 31, 2022,” the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said.
PAN is mandatory for many financial transactions including opening bank accounts, depositing cash in bank accounts, opening demat accounts, transactions in immovable properties and transactions in securities. Aadhaar is biometric based and cannot be obtained on the basis of any other identity document, linking the two is considered important for the tax administration.
How to link PAN-Aadhaar?
Both the documents can be linked either through SMS or on the Income Tax Department website.
- For linking via SMS, UIDPAN<स्पेस><12-अंकों का आधार नंबर><स्पेस><10-अंकों का पैन> Type and send it to 567678 or 56161. Once the message is sent to either of the two numbers, the PAN will be linked. to Aadhar card.
- To link through the website, visit incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on “Link Aadhaar” under the “Our Services” tab. Next, enter the details like name as per PAN, Aadhaar number, Aadhaar and mobile number and click on “Link Aadhaar”. After this both the documents will be linked together.
