SC gives 10 days to Center to respond in pharma freebies case

Mumbai The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Center to file a reply on holding pharmaceutical companies accountable for providing free facilities to doctors. This is in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Federation of Medical and Sales Representative Association of India, alleging that pharma companies induced doctors to prescribe their medicines. The Center has to file its reply in 10 days. The matter will be heard on September 29.

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud was informed by the petitioners that the dolo offered free Rs 1,000 crore to doctors to promote anti-fever medicine.

I was also asked to take the same medicine during Kovid. Justice Chandrachud said that this is a serious issue.
