SC grants bail to Yes Bank founder’s wife, daughters

The Supreme Court on Thursday granted interim bail to Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor’s wife and their two daughters in a criminal case allegedly arising out of 4,000 crore Yes Bank-Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) corruption case.

A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M M Sundaresh said the three women were granted bail as earlier the chargesheet contained more serious offenses, but now they were denied relief, though less serious in the supplementary chargesheet. There were crimes.

“It appears that by the supplementary charge sheet being charged with lesser offences, denial of bail has been sought even though the petitioners were earlier granted bail, when they were charged under Section 409, Indian Penal Code (Criminal (betrayal, banker or agent), punishable with imprisonment for life,” the court said in its order.

The court said that Kapoor’s wife Bindu Kapoor and two daughters Radha and Roshni Kapoor will be released on interim bail on the terms and conditions laid down in the previous bail order.

The court also sought a response from the Central Bureau of Investigation and listed the matter for hearing after six weeks. Senior advocates Harish Salve and Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for them, had earlier expressed surprise that their clients were directed to remain behind bars for offenses that were less serious than the offenses in which they were granted bail.
