The Supreme Court had on May 16 agreed to hear in July the petition of several judicial officers of Gujarat whose promotions had been put on hold.

A division bench headed by Justice MR Shah had on May 12 stayed the promotion of 68 lower judicial officers in Gujarat, including Surat Chief Judicial Magistrate Harish Hasmukhbhai Verma, who convicted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case.
