The school was running without electricity since 2010 and finally got its ‘power’ back on Saturday.

After thirteen years of writing innumerable letters and requesting everyone, the teachers and principal of this government high school finally decided to help themselves.

The school was running without electricity since 2010 and finally got its ‘power’ back on Saturday.

Since 2010, the students of the school were braving bitter cold and battling scorching heat as the 12-room building had no electricity connection.

Finally, the teachers, along with Principal Dr Ravi, donated Rs 25,000 each from their salaries to collect Rs 1,50,000 to pay for the electric wire and transformer.

The principal said, ‘I had joined here in 2010. There was no electricity connection when I joined. I went to public representatives, local administration and electricity department officials regarding this issue, I wrote at least 20 letters to public representatives but all in vain. The facility was upgraded to a high school in 2010 but we were not given an electricity connection.”

Out of the total amount, 80 thousand rupees were paid to the electricity department in lieu of connection and transformer. The remaining amount was used to purchase a 200 meter long cable to cover the distance from the transformer to the school and for wiring.

The transformer was installed on 25 January, but became operational on Saturday. Currently, we have 253 students studying in this school. The education department had made fans available to us, but due to lack of electricity, the fans were not installed. For the first time in more than a decade, they will be put to use,” said the principal.
