The details of the Chinar Park flat were provided by Ms. Mukherjee herself during her interrogation by the ED earlier in the day. In the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, the ED had raided a flat of Ms. Mukherjee in Belghoria area of ​​the city and recovered a large quantity of gold and silver, besides about 28 crore unaccounted cash.

The CBI is probing alleged irregularities in the recruitment of Group C and D staff as well as teachers in government-sponsored and aided schools on the recommendations of the West Bengal School Service Commission, as directed by the Calcutta High Court.

Mr Chatterjee, who was the education minister at the time of the alleged irregularities, was arrested on 23 July. He was dropped from all his cabinet portfolios and suspended from the ruling Trinamool Congress on 28 July.
