Scorching heat in Jharkhand, mercury crossed 43 degrees in Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar

The highest maximum temperature of 44.7 degree Celsius was recorded at Godda in Jharkhand.

Severe heat wave continues in Jharkhand and Iceland. In some areas of Jharkhand, where the maximum temperature has reached 44.7 degree Celsius, the mercury has crossed 43.2 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. However, partial respite from light, rain is expected in some parts of the state from April 21, an official of the Meteorological Department in Ranchi said on Thursday.

“The highest maximum temperature of 44.7 degree Celsius was recorded at Godda in Jharkhand, followed by 44.1 degree Celsius in Jamshedpur and 43.8 degree Celsius in Daltonganj,” said Abhishek Anand, director, Ranchi Season Centre. Anand said, “From April 21, there is a possibility of light rain and storm path for two-three days, due to which the temperature may decrease by two to four degrees.”

State capital Ranchi recorded a temperature of around 40 degrees Celsius. The Bhubaneswar-based meteorological office said Buddh was the hottest region in Odisha, recording a maximum temperature of 43.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhubaneswar (43.2 degrees Celsius), Talcher and Centerpara (43 degrees Celsius).

The city of Cuttack, situated on the banks of river Gretdi, also recorded a temperature of 42 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for heat wave conditions in Moorbanj, Jharsuguda, Khurda and Cuttack for the next 24 hours.

Similarly, ‘yellow alert’ has been issued for Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Sonpur and Balangir.
