New Delhi: Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris Extended its support for a two-month long window on Friday Indian Premier League In the new Future Tour program cycle.
The International Cricket Council on Wednesday released the Men’s Future Tours Program (FTP) 2023-27, confirming the international calendar for all full members of all three formats of the game. In all, there will be 777 international matches – 173 Tests, 281 ODIs and 323 T20Is – compared to 694 currently in the 2023–2027 FTP cycle.
“I remember 10 years ago the conversation was around how it was going to creep up to four or five days every year and it would be three months. Well, now we’re starting to get there. It’s going to take a while for us. Longer than expected, and I think you’re right. I think it will become the focal point that will allow players from all over the world to come together and play without any issues from a nationality perspective. And that’s important Not that a bad thing. I was in favor of it 10 years ago and now I am in favor of it.” Styris said on the Sports 18 show ‘Sports Over the Top’.
On India, England and Australia playing a lot of series and matches during the current FTP cycle, Styris said it is because they are three big teams and help the game make a lot of money.
“But you know, it’s very difficult to have meaningful competition when teams play different amounts of games. Think about the English Premier League. Football is a big part of India in India. You know you can play Man United in five Times don’t watch Liverpool play and yet Burnley play West Ham just once. You know it’s an equal playing field. Everyone plays everyone the same amount of time. So in a perfect world, I see this Would be nice. But sometimes it’s about money and that’s why they need to play big marquee teams,” he added.
India will play 27 ODIs in India ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue will play a 5-match Test series against England and Australia in the cycle. India will play 44 Tests, 63 ODIs and 76 T20 matches from 18 August 2022 to February 2027.
England will play the most number of Tests in the cycle – 22. Australia will play 21 Tests in this period, while India will play 20 Tests.
Styris also spoke about the future of the 50-over format of the game.
“Yeah, it’s tough. It’s not what I really worked on my mind and that’s because I really enjoyed one-day cricket. I thought it was a mix of power that I love in terms of cricket.” I think it allows itself to fit in with other sports around the world. Strength, speed, you know, all those things strength, stamina, agility, all that as well as in traditional cricket where the rotation There is a strike. There is a vocal protest. They are all aspects. It was the best of both worlds,” he said.
“So, I want to keep that going and I’d love to see if it’s still not in the World Cup itself. But then, we just talked about how much cricket is in the calendar now. How are you all that fit? ” He added.
