Marvel star on bringing drummer Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson’s relationship to life, who turns rock icon from superhero role

Now, the American-Romanian star has portrayed her stormy relationship with famed Mötley Fool drummer Tommy Lee and actor Pamela Anderson in a new series. The topic of tabloid obsession and virginity in the early days of the Internet, Pam and Tommy Charts the surprising story of how a leaked sex tape was stolen from the couple’s home by a disgruntled contractor (played by Seth Rogen), and the pop-culture epidemic it caused.
Described as a “love story, crime prank and cautionary tale rolled into one”, the show has attracted a lot of publicity not only for the explosive real-life celebrities, but also for the casting of Stan and James, whose debut The photoshoot for the project went viral.

What was the point of playing one of the most extraordinary musicians in history?
I grew up in the nineties. I came to America from Europe in 1995; I was 12 then, and I discovered a lot of things like theater and acting. It was an interesting period to reflect back. That being said, I was still too young to really understand what was really going on with this story of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. But in doing research, watching a lot of footage over and over again, reading tomyland (Tommy’s book), and whatever else I could find on that and on the relationship, I basically ate it all.
What was your feeling when you first saw Lily James and yourself as Pam and Tommy? The first look created panic…
We initially did a camera test, and it was the first time our fabulous hair and makeup team came together with the costumes, and everyone saw what we looked like. It was the first time I got to see Lily as Pamela Anderson, and I was just blown away by the resemblance.

I think we were both somewhat surprised, and perhaps relieved, that it gave us more confidence to move forward in the illustration.
What are some things you learned about Tommy Lee that you didn’t know before?
His background, for starters. I didn’t know what his childhood was like, how he became a drummer, and how quickly he was able to achieve success. In the eighties, I believe Motley Fool Crue was one of the most recognized bands on the planet, and one of the first legendary heavy metal outfits, along with the likes of Guns N’ Roses.
Tommy’s childhood has been very interesting. His father married her within four days of meeting his mother… just like he would marry Pamela many years later! He grew up in a household where English was not the first language; Her parents used to communicate with pictures to understand each other better. He found the drum to be a way of expressing himself.
You’ve talked before about what it was like to hammer your body with all of Tommy’s Tattoos Before Shooting After this experience, would you personally get inked?
No, no, I think it’s too late for me to get a tattoo now! (laughs) You know, the tattoos I had for this were very specific. He has that mighty mouse tattoo on the shoulder of his right arm, and obviously the melee tattoo is also very iconic in many ways.

Tommy is clearly a very controversial figure; Was there anything you disliked about him when you were portraying the character?
I’m very hesitant as an actor to be that subjective, especially when you’re just starting to work on something, and you don’t know the person and may have heard of them.
The intention here is not to portray anything differently that is not widely known about Tommy. Certainly, he himself has said a lot about it in interviews. Here we’re focusing more on his relationship with Pamela and on coming to terms with him in such a passionate way, and then essentially being the victim of a crime in this tape theft. We’re talking about the breach of privacy, the consequences, and how it affected both of them, especially as a woman.
