SEBI revises advisory committee on alternative investment policy

new Delhi SEBI has reconstituted its Alternative Investment Policy Advisory Committee, which advises the capital markets regulator on a range of issues affecting the further growth of the AIF sector. The panel constituted by SEBI in March 2015 had earlier 22 members. The committee has so far submitted three reports on the AIF (Alternative Investment Fund) industry.

The committee is headed by Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy.

Besides Murthy, the committee includes members from SEBI, finance ministry, AIF players and industry associations.

Gopal Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Capital Fund; Gopal Jain, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Gaza Capital; Vipul Rungta, Managing Director and CEO, HDFC Capital Advisors; and Renuka Ramnath, chairperson, Indian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (IVCA) are among the panel members, according to SEBI.

Other members include Prashant Khemka, founder and partner, White Oak Capital Management; Gautam Mehra, Partner, PwC; Subramaniam Krishnan, partner at Ernst & Young; Deepak Ranjan, Deputy Director, DEA, Ministry of Finance; Mahavir Lunavat, Vice Chairman, Association of Investment Bankers of India (AIBI); and Sujit Prasad, Executive Director, SEBI.

The panel is mandated to advise SEBI on any impediments that may impede the growth of the alternative investment industry and any other item related to the segment as well as the growth of the startup ecosystem in India.

Also, the committee is entrusted with the task of advising SEBI on any issues that may be taken up with other regulators for the development of the alternative investment industry.
