SEBI sets aside ₹67,228 crore dues as ‘difficult in recovery’

Markets regulator SEBI separates 67,228 crore outstanding under “hard recovery” in the financial year ended March 31, 2022. In its annual report, SEBI highlighted that approx. Rs 96,609 crore needs to be recovered from the entities which have failed to pay their penalty, and have not yet refunded the investors money. As per the Annual Report 2021-22, from the total 96,609 crore outstanding, SEBI said that 63,206 crore, which is 65% of the total, pertains to the Collective Investment Scheme (CIS) and public issues of PACL and Sahara Group company – Sahara India Commercial Corporation Ltd, as reported by PTI.

In addition, the regulator has set aside the dues 67,228 crore as recovery difficult (DTR).

As per the regulator, the outstanding in DTR is the one which cannot be recovered even after exhausting all the modes of recovery. According to the report, the regulator clarified that set-off of such DTR arrears is purely an administrative act and will not prevent recovery officers from recovering the amount set aside as DTR, as and when any of the DTR The parameter changes. recovery point.

In addition, SEBI has identified 59 new cases related to violation of securities law for investigation in the financial year 2021-22. Of the total, 38 cases were related to market rigging and price manipulation, meanwhile around 17 were related to insider trading, and the remaining 4 were related to other violations of securities law.

However, SEBI completed 169 cases in 2021-22 as compared to 140 cases in the previous year.
