Bhubaneswar: With the finalization of seat reservation process for various municipal bodies, state election commission ,seconds) has started the process of conducting elections to over 100 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), which has been delayed by almost three years.
The commission has set a deadline for final election preparations, which are likely to be ready by the end of this month. “We will use the recently revised voter list and divide it ward-wise. If a voter’s name (marked in the assembly wise voter list) is missed while preparing the ward wise voter list, it can be restored. If the name of a voter of a particular ward is mistakenly added to that of another ward, rectification is also allowed,” Padhi said.
Once the ward-wise division is done, the draft voter list (both soft and hard copy) will be shared with the national and state level parties.
According to the program, the draft of the electoral roll will be published on February 10, while objections and suggestions from the general public can be received between February 11 and February 16, which will be scrutinized by February 18. The final voter list will be prepared by February 24. It will be sent to the State Election Commission on February 28.
Official sources in the SEC said 110 municipal bodies, including three municipal corporations, 48 municipalities and 59 notified area councils (NACs), are likely to go to polls in April-May this year.
