Section 144 implemented, ban on large gathering in Patna due to teachers’ protest

Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code, which prohibits unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons, has been imposed at Gandhi Maidan, JP Golambar and Dak Bungalow roundabout in Patna.

Prohibitory orders have been imposed in three areas of Patna after protests by hundreds of aspiring teachers. Protests turned violent in some areas, with police resorting to lathi charge and water cannons.

Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code, which prohibits unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons, has been imposed at Gandhi Maidan, JP Golambar and Dak Bungalow intersection in Patna.

Earlier in the day, a huge battalion of police forces was deployed at the protest sites. CTET and BTET pass candidates were among the protesters demanding the release of primary teacher recruitment notification.

The protesters said that they are waiting for the recruitment to start from 2019. For the last three years, the government is only assuring to start the process.

One of the protesters said that before the formation of the new RJD-JD(U) government, Tejashwi Yadav used to say that the process of recruitment would start in the first cabinet. But till now nothing has happened.

The BJP hit out at the newly formed JD(U)-RJD government over reports of protests and violence.
