Security lapse during Amit Shah’s visit to Mumbai, Andhra officials arrested

Amit Shah was in Mumbai on a two-day visit this week

Mumbai:

In view of the security of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Mumbai, a man pretending to be a Home Ministry official came close to the leader and roamed freely in the restricted areas before being caught.

Amit Shah ended his two-day visit on Tuesday but the news of the incident came to light today.

The arrested person, Hemant Pawar, is believed to be the private secretary of an MP from Andhra Pradesh.

Wearing an I-card of the Ministry of Home Affairs, he allegedly roamed around Amit Shah for hours.

Police said he posed as an officer overseeing the security arrangements.

He was at two events that Amit Shah attended and was also seen outside the homes of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis.

Being suspicious, a Home Ministry official informed the Mumbai Police, who then questioned Pawar.

The police also came to know that his name was not in the list of the Home Minister’s security team.

Pawar was arrested. He has been sent to police custody for five days.

Mr Shah came to Mumbai for the first time after Eknath Shinde became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 30 July following the split in the Shiv Sena.
