“Sedative Till Next Lok Sabha Poll”: Shiv Sena Editorial Slams Union Budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced to increase the exemption limit in income tax.

Mumbai:

In a criticism of the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, ‘Saamana’, the official mouthpiece of Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction, said it was a pre-poll budget and a sedative for the people till the next general elections.

It has been said in the column that after about eight years, the Finance Minister announced to increase the exemption limit in income tax.

“Under this government, the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG have doubled and the tax exemption announced in the budget today does not compensate for this. Amid skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and rising inflation across sectors, this could be a plan Is.” To divert public attention from all these questions through tax relief by the government,” the column read.

The editorial further claimed that the government announced a special budgetary allocation for Karnataka keeping in mind the next assembly elections in the state, which are due this year.

“To appease the people of Karnataka, the Government announced a special allocation for Karnataka. The Finance Minister in his speech emphasized that adequate funds should be provided for the Bhadra Irrigation Project of Karnataka. While making such an announcement, the Finance Minister forgot that Mumbai and Maharashtra contribute the most to the country’s exchequer.

It alleged that Maharashtra got nothing from this budget and yet, the Sindh-Fadnavis government welcomed it, proving that they have mortgaged their self-respect.
