See photos of social media stunned by lightning striking Brazil’s Christ statue

Lightning struck a 100-foot-tall statue of Jesus Christ atop Rio de Janeiro on Friday. The scene stunned social media users, who were mesmerized by the presence of the Christ statue as lightning struck its head, making it look godlike.

“Divine Lightning!!! TODAY IS FRIDAY!!! Recorded on February 10th, 2023 at 6:55 PM (Christ) and 19:03 PM (Antenna) with 70-200mm f/2.8E at 70mm f/8 on NIKON D800 13″ ISO 100,” Fernando Braga photographed and shared the event on Instagram.

The picture went viral on social media platforms and users gave crazy reactions to the picture. The pictures have been viewed over 20 million times on Twitter and garnered over 2,15,000 likes and on Instagram the pictures have been liked by nearly 68,000 people.

“Zeus or Thor at this point. Jokes apart, this is a fairly frequent occurrence, being the highest point, it’s just someone having good luck timing the photography at the right time,” wrote a user named Massimo Shared the picture on Twitter.

Some even doubted the photo’s credibility, saying, “With 4K video at 60fps or more these days, capturing lighting really isn’t that hard. Just video the storm and extract the frames you want. Cool picture nonetheless.” I want one of the Statue of Liberty too,” said another user.

The Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is globally famous and a symbol of love and perseverance for many individuals and cultures. The statue has been damaged over the years in various lightning strikes

The statue’s right thumb was damaged by lightning in 2008 and its head was damaged by another lightning strike in 2014. Nevertheless, the Brazilian government and local communities have taken measures to preserve the statue and restore it to its former state.
