Senior BJP leader, two others from Himachal Pradesh join AAP

A senior BJP leader from Himachal Pradesh joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) here on Wednesday, saying he was fed up with the saffron party’s policy. BJP’s Scheduled Caste Morcha national executive member Harmel Dhiman joined AAP along with his supporters in the presence of senior party leaders.

Along with Dhiman, two other BJP leaders from Himachal Pradesh, Devraj and Jagdish Pawar also joined the AAP. Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader and Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that more BJP leaders from Himachal Pradesh are ready to join the Arvind Kejriwal-led party soon. Dhiman ji is a well known face of Himachal Pradesh. Tired of BJP’s policies, he is joining the Aam Aadmi Party today. Jain told reporters that he was actively associated with the BJP for the past 30 years and was serving as a national executive member of the SC Morcha of the BJP. Dhiman also previously served as the vice-president of the BJP’s Himachal Pradesh SC Morcha, he said that Devraj had been the mandal president twice for the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, Pawar was twice the pradhan (village head) and as a member of the block. Worked in Development Council and Zilla Parishad in the hill state, Jain said.

At least 1000 people of BJP will soon join Aam Aadmi Party. In this connection, I will soon visit Kasauli. Jain is in charge of AAP’s political affairs in Himachal Pradesh, where elections are due later this year. I am joining Aam Aadmi Party today because I am fed up with BJP’s policy. After joining AAP, Dhiman told reporters that I have come to this party because I am influenced by the work and ideology of Arvind Kejriwal. The AAP on Monday dissolved the Himachal Pradesh Working Committee and announced that it would soon reconstitute it after top office-bearers of the party’s state unit and some other leaders join the BJP.

Last week, the AAP joined the BJP in the presence of its president JP Nadda and Union minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur in the national capital, Himachal Pradesh president Anoop Kesari, general secretary (organisation) Satish Thakur and Una district chief Iqbal Singh. Taking a jibe at the AAP on Monday, Thakur had said that some more AAP leaders, including women’s wing chief Mamta Thakur, have joined the BJP, saying it would be difficult for Kejriwal to save his party’s organization in Himachal Pradesh.

He said that Kejriwal had thought of forming the government in the state but he was finding it difficult to save the organization of his party. Elections in Himachal Pradesh are due later this year.
