Senior Pakistan general, 5 other officers killed in helicopter crash during flood work

New DelhiSix Pakistani military officers, including 12th Corps Commander Lt Gen Sarfaraz Ali, were killed in a helicopter crash in Balochistan on Monday night.

The Pakistan Army issued a statement on Tuesday saying that the helicopter went down in bad weather. The wreckage of the helicopter was found near Musa Goth in Balochistan’s Lasbela district.

“All six officers, including Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali, embraced martyrdom,” the Pakistan Army said.

Apart from the XII Corps Commander, Amjad Hanif Satti, Director General of the Coast Guard of Pakistan was also killed in the accident.

The other four include a Brigadier, two Majors and a Naik. They were Brigadier Muhammad Khalid, Major Saeed Ahmed, Major M. Talha Manan and Naik Mudassar Fayaz.

ThePrint had earlier reported that the helicopter was involved in relief operations in the Balochistan region after heavy rains caused flooding, in which several people were killed.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif tweeted condoling, “The nation is deeply saddened by the martyrdom of Lt Gen Sarfaraz Ali and 5 other officers of the Pakistan Army. They were performing the sacred duty of providing relief to the flood-affected people on this earth. Will always be indebted to the sons. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.”
