Sensex hits 57,000 peak; Growth of over 4,000 points in August so far

The bluechip index hit an all-time high of 57,124.78 on Tuesday in late August trading, which has seen the stock market set several new records.

The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex climbed over 4,000 points so far this month to hit 57,000 for the first time on Tuesday as equity markets continued to rally.

The market capitalization of BSE-listed companies soared to an all-time high of ₹2,48,34,296 crore in morning trade, reflecting strong stock market sentiments despite concerns over a possible taping by the US Federal Reserve.

Earlier on August 4, for the first time, the Sensex crossed the 54,000 mark at both intra-day and closing levels. After nine days on August 13, the index crossed the 55,000 level and closed above this level as well.

The next 1,000-point-level was raised in less than a week as the benchmark climbed the 56,000-peak for the first time in intra-day on August 18.

Then on 27 August it closed above the 56,000 mark for the first time.
