Sensex rises 500 points in early trade

Equity markets continued their previous day’s rally as Sensex jumped 500 points in early trade on Friday, May 27, 2022, reflecting positive trends from global equities.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 54,752.58, up 500.05 points. The broader NSE Nifty rose 159.2 points to 16,329.35.

From the Sensex pack, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finserv, HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Wipro and Bajaj Finance were the major gainers in early trade.

In contrast, NTPC, Power Grid, Nestle, Dr Reddy’s and Tata Steel were among the laggards.

On Thursday, the Sensex closed at 54,252.53, up 503.27 points or 0.94 per cent. The Nifty closed at 16,170.15, up 144.35 points or 0.90 per cent.

Elsewhere in Asia, markets in Seoul, Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong were trading in the green.

The stock markets in the US closed with a lot on May 26.

International oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.17 per cent to $117.60 a barrel.

According to stock exchange data, foreign institutional investors continued their selloff on Thursday with shares worth a net ₹1,597.84 crore.
