Sensex rises over 500 points in opening trade; Nifty 17,650. at over

Equity benchmark Sensex climbed over 500 points in early trade on Friday, tracking gains in heavyweights Titan, Wipro and Infosys amid a firming trend in global markets.

Traders said inflow of foreign funds into the capital markets also added to the momentum.

The BSE Sensex closed at 59,295.57, up 520.85 points in early trade. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty rose 163.4 points to 17,685.85.

From the Sensex pack, Titan, Tech Mahindra, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Wipro, Infosys and Axis Bank were among the major gainers.

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel and Nestle were lagging behind.

In Asia, markets in Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading in green in mid-session deals.

Wall Street closed with gains on Thursday.

Prashant Taapsee – Research Analyst – Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd. said, “Intra-day markets may remain volatile as investors are likely to exercise caution ahead of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s speech at the Jackson Hole symposium. Is.”

The BSE benchmark closed 310.71 points or 0.53% lower at 58,774.72 on Thursday. Nifty closed 82.50 points or 0.47% lower at 17,522.45.

Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.78 per cent to $100.11 a barrel.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 369.06 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.
