Sevadar of Golden Temple denied entry to woman carrying tricolor, SGPC apologizes

A day after a video went viral on social media platforms, in which a sevadar at the Golden Temple can be seen refusing entry to a woman with the tricolor on her face, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) apologized for.

In the viral video, the serviceman can be heard saying offensive things like, “This is Punjab, not India.” He also abused the woman and the person accompanying her when they objected to the remarks.

SGPC General Secretary Gurcharan Singh Grewal, reacting to the controversy, released a video statement and said “Every place of worship has its own code. The sevadars have to enforce this code. In the incident, the sevadars got incensed and said a few things. I As the general secretary, I apologize wholeheartedly if anyone has misbehaved with any passenger.”

The General Secretary also expressed surprise over the incident being linked to Khalistan. He said that the Sikh community has made a lot of sacrifices for the honor of the tricolor.

“I am shocked at the kind of reactions on Twitter linking this incident to Khalistan.”

“Do these people know that the tricolor is respected because of the sacrifices of the Sikh community? Nine out of 10 people who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle were Sikhs.”

Despite the fact that the General Secretary apologised, Sarabjit Singh, the guard responsible for making the controversial statement, expressed no remorse.

Sarabjit Singh said in a video, “She was wearing a skirt. I told her about dignity and asked her to cover her body. Legs should be completely covered. Welcome to Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple) Yes, but with dignity.”

SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said, “The conversation between a devotee and a sevadar should not be portrayed negatively. I strongly condemn the narrative being made against Sikhs on social media regarding the viral conversation of a woman devotee.” Am.”
