Shah Rukh Khan gets emotional on Twitter, offering ‘dua’ for Lata Mangeshkar

A picture of Shahrukh Khan joining hands in Dua and Pooja Dadlani’s ‘Pranam’ went viral

New Delhi:

As the nation paid an emotional farewell to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, scenes of actor Shah Rukh Khan saying dua at the cremation ground won hearts on social media, and sparked a controversy.

Visuals from the cremation ceremony at Shivaji Park in Mumbai show Mr Khan and his manager Pooja Dadlani paying their last respects to the singer. A picture of Mr Khan raising his hands in dua and Ms Dadlani joining in a ‘pranam’ with her hands went viral on social media, with most people appreciating how the frame beautifully captured the diversity of India.

From politicians to writers to student leaders, people from diverse walks of life appreciated the warm gesture of the superstar.

However, a tweet by a Haryana BJP leader sparked controversy.

Arun Yadav, whose Twitter handle is said to be the state in-charge of Haryana BJP’s IT cell, shared a short clip that shows Khan saying dua, removing his mask and blowing air.

“Did he spit?” Mr Yadav set off a targeted social media attack against the actor in a Twitter post, with many accusing Mr Khan of disrespecting the legendary singer at his funeral.

The BJP leader faced a huge backlash on social media as people started pointing out that the dua was followed by a gust of wind to “ward off evil spirits” and accused him of creating controversy from a beautiful moment.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinet was among those who targeted Arun Yadav, accusing him of spreading hatred.

In a setback, the BJP leader tweeted today that he was “just asking a question” and that the “opposition is not liking his work in the national interest”.
