Sharad Pawar has uploaded a sadha on BJP, calling ‘tribals’ ‘vanvasi’

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying ‘tribals’ are called ‘vanvasis’ and those who use the word show their ignorance.
He was speaking at a program here. The former Union Minister, without naming anyone, said, “Some people like to call Adivasis as ‘Vanvasis’ like migrants. It will not be an exaggeration if I say that the tribals would be called an insult by the forest dwellers. They are infamous.”

He said, “They are the real owners of water, forest and land. Those who use such words (Vanvasi) portray their ignorance towards tribals as well as their ignorance towards monitoring efforts in this country. The credit for this (preserving the forests) goes to them (tribals).

Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan, a partner-led organization, launched its Tribal Welfare Center on Sunday. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying they are using the “derogatory” term ‘vanvasi’ for tribals. In November last year, during a rally in Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi had said that tribals should join the BJP to insult them as ‘vanvasis’.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh supports an organization called ‘Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram’ which works for the welfare of tribals.
