Sharad Purnima 2022: All you need to know about Kojagari Puja

Happy Sharad Purnima: Kojagari Lakshmi Puja is an auspicious festival celebrated mainly in West Bengal, Orissa and Assam. This day is celebrated after Durga Puja. As per the Hindu calendar, the festival is celebrated during the Purnima (full mood) tithi of the month of Ashwin.

On this day, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi to please her and seek her blessings. In other parts of the country, Kojagari Puja or Bengal Lakshmi Puja is considered as Sharad Purnima and is celebrated under the influence of Amavasya Tithi during Diwali.

Kojagari Puja: Date and Time

According to the Drik Panchang, this year Kojagari Puja will be celebrated on 9 October. Purnima Tithi will be effective from 03:41 am on 9 October to 02:24 pm on 10 October. And the auspicious time of Kojagari Puja will be from 11:34 pm on 9th October to 12:20 pm on 10th October.

Kojagari Puja: Significance

According to mythology, Goddess Lakshmi circumambulates the Earth’s orbit in the guise of white moonlight to bless her devotees on Sharad Purnima. It is believed that whoever stays awake for the whole night, Goddess Lakshmi is blessed with wealth and good health.

To mark the occasion, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi with full devotion and dedication to receive her abundant grace. Additionally, during the Kojagara Puja, the deity of the Moon is worshipped as it is believed that on this day the rays of the Moon nourish and heal the body and soul of the person. Devotees make delicious pudding on this day and keep it under the moonlight. The next day, the pudding is served as holy prasad (offering) to all the family members.
