Shark Tank India: Ashneer Grover talks about his ‘dogmatism’, reveals why his wife wore a pitcher’s clothes

Shark Tank India has acted as a breath of fresh air for the viewers. The reality show features entrepreneurs presenting their business ideas to a panel of tycoons, also known as sharks, who offer their investments and guidance in exchange for equity. Ashneer Grover, one of the sharks of the show, has managed to make a name for himself thanks to several business ideas with his hilarious and witty flair.

Ashneer had pulled up a pitcher named Neeti Singhal, who had sought investment in her fashion label at the show. However, he was later called out for his hypocrisy when his wife Madhuri was seen wearing the same label’s outfit on The Kapil Sharma Show.

However, days after the show concluded, Ashneer has addressed his own ‘dogalapan’ (double standards) in recent conversations with comedians and writers Rohan Joshi and Sahil Shah. “So I told her (policy) that I would get out of it because it was so bad. So many entrepreneurs give up clothes for sharks, and she left one for my wife, and I don’t know what my wife liked, she wore it on The Kapil Sharma Show,” he said. The entrepreneur further argued that his wife has her own fashion choices and does not listen to him. “The girl said I attacked her designs, but my wife was wearing them. Clearly, my wife has a mind of her own, and she doesn’t listen to me,” he said.

In the finale episode of the first season of Shark Tank that aired on 4th February, Delhi-based fashion designer Neeti introduced her brand Twee in One. The unique selling point of Policy’s fashion label was that it makes “reversible fashion clothing”. While the other sharks on the show were impressed by the design and clothing, Ashneer strongly criticized Niti’s ideas. He shrugged off the policy pitch, saying, “It’s very bad fashion. I don’t think anyone will wear it. You should turn it off. Why are you wasting your time? If you wear a lehenga sitting with your mother, then two lakhs will be sold.

Later, during a conversation with Hindustan Times, the pitcher mentioned that even though Ashneer rejected his business idea, his wife wore the clothes gifted to him during The Kapil Sharma Show. “In the show, Ashneer said, ‘Mere ghar mein to tumre kapde koi nahi pada’ (No one will wear your clothes in my house). But the funny thing is that the dress I gifted him on The Kapil Sharma Show, It was worn by his wife Madhuri. It’s funny because he always says, ‘Yeh sab dogalapna hai’ (this is hypocrisy) but when I saw it, I remembered that line,” laughed the designer.

Shark Tank India aired on Sony Entertainment Television at 9 pm on weekdays for over two months.
