Shekhar Kapur shares a throwback picture of himself with the superstar tom cruise, The picture is of Anil Kapoor at a party organized at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. Top Gun: Maverick The actor was in India in the year 2011. In the image, Tom Cruise rests his hand on the filmmaker’s shoulder and is seen having a heartfelt conversation. Sharing the photo, he captioned it, “When #TomCruise called me and asked me why I’m not making #paani!”. Soon after sharing the post, fans flooded the comments section, asking Shekhar Kapur to make the film. One fan wrote, “Sir make that film… now you can do it in a big way” while another remembered late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and wrote, “Wish #paani banti and @itsSSR internationally famous Would have loved you @shekharkapur @itsSSR we missed to see you and enjoy your life like performance!!!Only and only for SSR”.

Shekhar Kapur’s stalled film Paani, which was announced in 2013, was based on the climate crisis. Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput was supposed to play the lead role in the film, but the film did not get produced. After the actor’s sudden death, Shekhar Kapur tweeted that he would dedicate it to Sushant if it was ever made. He tweeted, “If you want to travel with the gods, or your creativity, you have to walk step by step in devotion. With humility. God’s will will make #water one day. If that happens, I will.” I will dedicate it to Sushant.” But it has to be built with partners who walk humbly, not arrogantly.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shekhar Kapur made his directorial debut in Bollywood with the 1983 cult classic film Masoom. He has also directed Anil Kapoor and Sridevi’s Mr India.
