AIPA President Ashok Agrawal said, “Now that students are returning to school, the vaccination centers running in government schools should be shifted to other places. Also, teachers on COVID duties should be called back, because of the number of cases. There has been a substantial reduction in that.” in the letter. It is important to provide students with a safe and secure environment where they can focus on studies as “there has already been a significant learning loss due to the Covid-induced school closures”, he said.

Amid a drop in coronavirus cases in the city, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) decided to reopen schools as well as higher education institutions and coaching centers for classes 9-12 from February 7. It also decided to reopen schools for students from nursery to class 8. From 14 February.

According to the city health department, 739 new Covid-19 cases and five more deaths were reported in Delhi on Thursday, while the positivity rate stood at 1.48 per cent. There has been a decline in the number of daily cases in Delhi after touching a record high of 28,867 on January 13.

While the Center has removed mandatory parental consent for students to physically attend schools from its guidelines and left it to the states, the Delhi government has decided to continue with it.

There is no cap on 50 per cent student strength and schools are free to decide the number of students based on their infrastructure so as to adhere to the COVID protocol.

As per the guidelines issued by DDMA, the area or portion of the school being used for vaccination or ration distribution should be properly separated or demarcated from the area being used for educational activities.

“In this regard, the district administration shall seal off the area earmarked for vaccination or ration distribution centre, make separate entry or exit for the purpose and sufficient number to avoid the union of students with persons coming for vaccination or ration will deploy civil defense volunteers in the distribution centre,” the guidelines stated.
