The Shivrathiri festival by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) department at the Kapaleswara temple has drawn criticism from Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK), an ally of the ruling DMK government.
The department has organized music, dance and debate throughout the night and advertised about these events. Vaniya Arasu, a senior VCK leader said that it is dangerous for the state government to start religious propaganda.
When asked what could go wrong in organizing when the government has a separate department for temple administration, Mr. Vanni Arasu said that the role of the department is limited to overseeing the management system. “It cannot organize programs for religious propaganda. The DMK government is doing what the AIADMK government did not dare to do. Does the government want to please the RSS and the Sangh Parivar? He asked.
