‘Shocking’: IOA formally writes to CGF More sports news – Times of India

New Delhi: Indian Olympic Association ,IOA) formally wrote to UK Headquarters Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) strongly recommends the inclusion of shooting, archery and wrestling in the sports program of 2026 Commonwealth Games In the Victorian state of Australia.
IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta sent a letter to the office of CGF President Dame Louise Martin, expressing deep displeasure of Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) India over the boycott of sporting subjects by the organizers of Victoria CWG. The development comes two days after the Sports Ministry instigated the IOA to take up the matter with the CGF. The ministry also said that it is looking forward to talks with the IOA before taking up the issue diplomatically with the CGF and the organizing committee.
In his letter, Mehta wrote: “It is indeed shocking for CGA India to learn that these three very popular sports in the sports world were ignored by the CGF. In the last three editions of the Commonwealth Games, India has won 63 medals in shooting and Wrestling has won 44 medals.Archery was a part of 2010 Commonwealth Games and is also played in most of the Commonwealth countries.
He further added: “CGA India is strongly recommending the inclusion of Shooting, Wrestling and Archery as part of the 2026 CWG sports programme. Since the Games of the 2026 Games are held in different cities, the host country should be given all three There can be no reservation for the conduct of the Games (sic). We also request our request to be included in the agenda of the next CGF General Assembly so that it can be discussed and decided favorably by the House (sic).
