“Should I try to get infected with Omicron because it is mild and gives me natural immunity?” Experts Answer | The Times of India

Several studies have suggested that omicron leads to mild symptoms, but the term mild is underestimated in the context of the coronavirus. Even getting infected with this mild version can hamper your daily functioning for at least 10 days. You will have to deal with many symptoms like fever, chills, cough, breathlessness, muscle aches, headache, loss of smell and taste, nausea and vomiting. In addition, there is always the risk of long-term symptoms, especially when you are suffering from an underlying health condition.

Dr Col Vijay Dutta, Senior Consultant – Internal Medicine, Indian Spinal Injuries Center said that some reports suggest that Omicron has mild symptoms, but they can be misleading. “People do not know about the severity of Omicron until they have experienced any major post-COVID symptoms of any disease. The available tests and current knowledge allow us to know about the duration of immunity and protection against re-infection. It is recommended that people follow the COVID safety norms, especially those who have not yet been vaccinated or who have received only one dose of the vaccine and have comorbidities,” he insisted.
