Shut down auto services till tomorrow: Karnataka warns cab aggregators of action

Cab aggregators have shown no sign of falling in line with the government order.

Bangalore:

On the Karnataka government’s direction of taxi aggregators including Ola and Uber to stop autorickshaw services with immediate effect, the state transport department has warned that enforcement will start from Monday.

The state government on Thursday issued notices to Ola, Uber and other taxi aggregators for illegally driving autorickshaws and overcharging customers for violating the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules 2016.

However, the cab aggregators have shown no signs of falling in line with the government order.

“We had given them three days to stop their services. We also asked them to furnish details in our notice whether we have any in this period. They have not yet responded. Hence, enforcement. Will start from tomorrow,” a senior transport department official told PTI.

Even on Sundays, autorickshaw services were running and the charges were much higher as compared to the meter-based regular charges.

Manjunath, an autorickshaw driver associated with a cab aggregator firm, said he would like to see the government take action.

He said, “We had given a similar notice to the cab aggregators just before the elections, but again no action was taken. Now once again when the assembly elections are near, a similar notice has been given to the government. I want to see you in action.” Told.
