Glowing reviews of Hrithik Roshan starrer Fighter did not translate to box office statistics.

Fighter: Siddharth Anand is upset with the lukewarm performance of his latest film Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, at the box office.

Siddharth Anand is seemingly upset with the lukewarm response to his latest directorial Fighter, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. The filmmaker on Friday shared a cryptic post on his Instagram Story, which left fans wondering who he was talking about.

“Your biggest fan is a stranger. Your biggest hater is someone you know,” read a quote shared by Siddharth. “Hahaha, what a thought,” the War director captioned the quote.

Netizens have been speculating about his cryptic post on Reddit, with many wondering if he had a fallout with YRF after Fighter underperformed at the box office. One user in fact wrote, “This has gotta be something about YRF. Him not directing War 2 was a surprise to me and it makes sense now.”

On day 15, Fighter made Rs 2.65 crore at the Indian box office (across all languages), as per a Sacnilk report. In total, the film has collected Rs 187.40 crore, the report added. Released on January 25, Fighter featured Hrithik Roshan as Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania (aka Patty) and Deepika Padukone in the role of Squadron Leader Minal Rathore (aka Mini). The cast also included Anil Kapoor as Group Captain Rakesh Jai Singh, Karan Singh Grover as Sartaj Gill, and Akshay Oberoi as Basheer Khan.

In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Siddharth Anand spoke about why the film may not have worked at the box office. He said, “Fighter is a huge leap. As filmmakers do this in the country, and the kind of genre it is. It’s a space that is unexplored, and is absolutely new. It has no reference point for the audience, that means what they are seeing is a little… accha… such big stars, a commercial director, accha ye planes kya kar rahi he [what are these planes doing?] I am like is this my film, I don’t know this.”
