The cost of each dose of Covovax Covid Vaccine has been cut from 900 225, excluding taxes, the Serum Institute of India (SII) informed on Tuesday. This comes a day after the inclusion of the COVID shot on the CoWIN portal for immunization of children aged 12-17 years in private immunization centres. Last week, the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) approved the vaccine for this age.
Prakash Kumar Singh, director of government and regulatory affairs, SII, informed the government earlier in the day that the firm was reducing the price of each dosage. from 900 225 plus Goods and Services Tax (GST) for private hospitals.
On top of that, private hospitals can charge 150 as service charge. The prices have also been revised on the CoWIN portal.
India’s drug regulator on December 28 last year approved Kovovax for restricted use in emergency situations in adults and in the 12-17 age group, on March 9, subject to certain conditions.
Currently, children in the age group of 12 to 14 years are vaccinated with the biological E K Corbevax, while children in the 15-18 age group are being given Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin free of cost at government immunization centres.
