Six killed in car-lorry collision on highway near Tiruchi

Six people, including a nine-year-old girl, were killed when a car and a lorry collided on the Tiruchi-Salem State Highway near Thiruvasi in Toruchi district in the early hours of Sunday. All the victims were traveling in the car at the time of the accident. Due to the accident, the traffic came to a standstill for some time.

Police identified the dead as K.K. Muthusamy (58), P. Ananthai (57) of Salem district, G. Dhavanashree (9), R.K. of Namakkal district. Thirumurthy (43), A. Santosh Kumar (30) and Appu alias Murugesan (55) of Salem district.

Police sources said a group of nine people were traveling in a car from Salem district to a temple in Kumbakonam when the accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Car driver Santosh Kumar lost control of the vehicle, due to which the car collided . Collided with a lorry laden with wooden logs coming in the opposite direction.

Six people, including the car driver, died on the spot in the accident, while three others were injured. The injured were sent to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchy. Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi Sujith Kumar inspected the accident site and made inquiries. The Vathlai police is probing the matter.
