Form of words:

Lucknow: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections early next year, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has planned a four-and-a-half-year “grand celebration” of the Yogi Adityanath government.

The festival will be organized from September 19 to 26 in all the districts of the state.

“Normally, the party celebrates the tenure of the government annually, not over a period of six months, but now that elections are around the corner, we have to celebrate to boost the morale of the workers. These events are the best medium to promote our cadre and local leaders. We will ‘celebrate’ it asYogi Sarkar: Unmatched 4.5 Years’, said a senior BJP leader on condition of anonymity.

“The party is also planning to organize a grand program at the state headquarters where senior leaders and ministers can participate,” he said.

Schemes

The Yogi Adityanath government, which came to power in 2017, will complete 54 months on September 19. On this day, BJP leaders from the state including all MLAs and MLCs will participate in festive programs at all 27,700 ‘Shakti Kendras’ across the state and highlight the achievements of the government.

“Our party refers to a cluster of booths as ‘Shakti Kendras’. In our organization system, a ‘Shakti Kendra’ is formed between 6 to 8 booths. We have 27,700 Shakti Kendras in the state. There are 35-40 Shakti Kendras in every Vidhan Sabha (constituency),” said BJP UP general secretary JPS Rathore.

“All leaders will be assigned their respective ‘Shakti Kendras’ to reach out to for participation. We have also planned press conferences in every district on the same day.

A UP BJP functionary told ThePrint that digital content on the achievements of the government and its welfare schemes would be provided to all district units for distribution.

“We will try to take feedback from those who come. We will also collect their basic information so that we can share our work directly on their phone. It also helps us in increasing connectivity,” the BJP functionary, who also wished to remain anonymous, said.

According to him, on September 20, all the MLAs will inform the people of their respective areas about the initiatives of the government and the party. District units will be asked to hold a press conference from September 21 to 25. On September 26, the last day of the function, party workers will distribute booklets on the achievements of the government.

Another BJP source said the party is also planning to highlight the importance of Shakti Kendras. “We have already exposed booth workers, panna pramukhs (people in charge of each page of the voter list) etc. Now, the focus is on these power centers,” he said.

Modi’s birthday celebration, work in other campaigns too

Along with this, UP BJP will also run a special ‘Seva Samarpan Abhiyan’ to celebrate the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from 17 September to 7 October. The PM will turn 71 on September 17.

Under this, health, blood donation, sanitation, vaccination and environmental protection campaigns will be conducted across the state. In many districts, a cake-cutting ceremony can also take place.

On September 11, BJP national president JP Nadda will also virtually inaugurate the party’s ‘Booth Vijay Abhiyan’ (campaign for victory over booths), party leaders said.
