SJFI to honor Sunil Gavaskar with a medal Cricket News – Times of India

Mumbai: Sports Journalists Federation of India ,SJFI) on Tuesday decided to confer the coveted ‘SJFI Medal’ on the legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar,
the body decided on its own annual General Meeting ,AGM) in Guwahati.
According to a media statement, Neeraj Chopra, who won the only gold medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics, was adjudged the SJFI Sportsman of the Year, while weightlifter Mirabai Chanu was adjudged the sportsperson of the year. ,
The Indian men’s team that won a hockey bronze in Tokyo – its first hockey medal in 40 years – was declared the Team of the Year.
India’s Paralympic campaign stars Sumit Antil and Pramod Bhagat will share the Para-Athlete of the Year in the men’s category while shooter Avani Lekhara will receive the Para-Athlete of the Year women’s award.
The AGM elected A Vinod (Kerala) as the new SJFI president, Prashant Keni (Mumbai) as the secretary and Vidyut Kalita (Assam) as the treasurer.
Other executive committee members are:
Vice Presidents: Devendra Pandey (Mumbai), Vikas Pandey (Indore), Sambit Mohapatra (Odisha) and Sarju Chakraborty (Tripura).
Joint secretary: Amitabh Das Sharma (Kolkata)
