Skoda Auto Volkswagen India MD Gurpratap Boparai resigns – Times of India

New Delhi: Auto maker Skoda Auto Volkswagen India said on Wednesday that its managing director Gurpratap Boparai Has resigned from the company with effect from January 1, 2022. Christian Kahn von Selen will take interim charge VW GroupIndian Operations with effect from January 1, 2022 in his capacity as Chairman of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL), the automaker said in a statement.
Boparai’s successor will be announced soon.
“It is with deep regret that we accept Gurpratap’s resignation. I would like to thank him for leading the group’s India operations through a complex merger, and for his outstanding role in ensuring that The group’s important India 2.0 project was just on time. Minimal disruption, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic,”
Skoda Auto President Thomas Schaefer noted.
He said that the smooth execution of the merger and the success of the products launched under the project is a testament to his leadership and deep understanding of all aspects of the automotive business and emerging trends in the auto industry.
“We thank them for their contribution and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. I am confident that the leadership team that has successfully executed the India 2.0 project under their leadership is well placed to take the company to the next level. Equipped with our India strategy,” Schaefer said.
Boparai had joined the company in April 2018 as the Managing Director of Skoda Auto India.
He was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the merger of three VW Group entities namely Volkswagen India, Skoda Auto India and Volkswagen Group Sales India as Managing Director of the merged entity SAVWIPL.
He was instrumental in leading the VW Group in its endeavor to permanently consolidate its position in the Indian market.
He successfully spearheaded the India 2.0 project, under which the group has so far launched two products – the Skoda Kushak and the VW Taigun, marking the group’s entry into the mid-sized SUV segment in the country.
The company’s aggressive product line-up in India continues with the Skoda Slivia to be launched in early 2022 and the Volkswagen notchback later in 2022.
