Thiruvananthapuram: CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that there is some relief in the pandemic situation in the state. In the last six days, of the 2,42,278 active cases, only 13% had to be hospitalised, and only 2% of them required oxygen beds.
Currently, lockdown restrictions have been imposed in wards with more than 7% WIPR. In the review meeting, it has now been decided to raise the limit of WIPR to 8% for banning. Antigen testing has now been limited to people admitted to hospitals for various surgeries and other treatment purposes. All remaining cases will be investigated through RT-PCR. It has been implemented in districts where more than 80% first dose vaccination is covered.
Now it has been decided to extend it to all the districts. Total vaccination in the state is rapidly approaching 80%, and currently, 78% of people are covered with the first dose, and 30% have received the second dose. Of those over the age of 45, 93% received the first dose.
Vijayan said local bodies have been urged to ensure that those who are testing positive are following the quarantine rules. The responsibility of ensuring this lies with the local bodies and the police department. The team of motorcycle police is inspecting such people at the ward level. In the last 24 hours, the patrol team has visited 23,419 houses in the state. He said that in the last week, the police have contacted 4,19,382 people on the contact list to ensure that they are under quarantine.
Other states have made it mandatory that students coming there have to take a dose of both the vaccines. Therefore, it has been decided to run a special drive to ensure vaccination of students going to other states. All district collectors have been directed to ensure vaccination of migrant laborers.
