Holi 2023 is now officially over and the country indulges in the festival of colors like never before. With the nightmares of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown behind, this year’s Holi gave everyone an opportunity to come together and celebrate with their families and friends. And as we scroll through our social media feeds filled with faces decked out in all kinds of bizarre hues, our skincare has taken a backseat. But don’t worry! Kaanta Laga girl and popular social media sensation Shefali Jariwala has got you covered.

In an exclusive interview with News18, Shefali shares some essential tips about skin care routine after Holi celebrations. Since people use all kinds of colors during Holi, our skin is always at risk of coming in contact with harmful chemicals or ingredients. When asked about her routine, Shefali revealed, “One thing I really take care of is that I use only herbal colours. They are very safe for skin, eyes and hair. Having said that, you do not know when stepping out that other people will be using the same brand of colors. From a very young age, coconut oil has been a savior. I apply a lot of coconut oil on my skin. I apply coconut oil to my hair. If coconut oil is applied on the body then actually the color does not remain. It comes off very easily when you shower.”

Skin type also varies from person to person. Some may have oily skin while some may have dry skin. Answering the question whether people with certain skin types need to take extra precautions, Shefali explained,

“I believe that if you have a certain skin type, for example sensitive skin or acne-prone skin, you will need to follow a different skin care routine that your doctor may have recommended to you. For me , I’m very lucky and my skin routine is very simple. I really don’t understand how people do 15 steps-20 steps skin care routines. I just don’t have the time, energy, effort and inclination to do it . For me, it’s just washing my face with a gentle facewash and then applying lots of moisturizer. Sunscreen after that. It’s something I can never do without. It doesn’t matter if I’m at home Or stepping outside, I never do it without my sunscreen.”

She further added, “My other main focus is that I never sleep with my makeup on.

No matter how tired you are or how late at night it is, I make a point to thoroughly cleanse my face and remove every bit of makeup before I go to bed.”

Talking about choosing the right kind of moisturizer and other skincare products for yourself, Shefali shared, “There are a lot of products available in the market. It really is all about what suits you and what doesn’t suit you and what is your taste and preference. There are some people who prefer certain fragrances in the product and others prefer more lather when it comes to face washes. And some people prefer to use facial wipes before washing their face. So it’s very personal and unique what you like and what works for your skin.”

Shefali further added, “For me, any gentle facewash that really works really well on my skin. I am not a brand-conscious person. As long as the product is doing its job well and it’s beneficial to my skin, I’m fine with it.”

Shefali Jariwala answers whether people should use homemade organic face-masks or market masks for their post-Holi skin care routine. He said, “Homemade concoctions and decoctions have many benefits. Any tenderness, love and care that you give to your skin is bound to make your skin glow. While I’m not big into making homemade masks and stuff, I do know that if I’ve tanned or if I’ve burned my skin, I’ll use pure aloe vera to treat my skin. I would use a lot of multani mitti, sandalwood masks which I make at home. If my eyes are tired, I’ll pour pure milk. Initially it feels very, very cold but then I apply it as an ice mask with a cotton ball. So very simple things, simple ingredients will work wonders. You don’t need to go for anything else.”

Sharing her views on whether one should use hot water or cold water to wash off the colors from the skin after Holi, Shefali insisted, “I have no idea. To be honest, I do not take cold water bath. I need luke warm water for my bath and it doesn’t hurt me.”

Shefali Jariwala, giving advice on how to deal with sunburn, concluded that even after applying sunscreen, one can still attend Holi parties. She said, “Aloe vera works like a miracle to heal and soothe burnt skin. They should try to use pure paste of aloe vera. I find it’s really helpful because it relaxes the skin.”
