Samajwadi Party (SP) Mainpuri Lok Sabha Bypoll Candidates A senior party leader said that Dimple Yadav may file her nomination papers on Monday.
His candidature is seen as part of the SP’s efforts to carry forward the legacy of his father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav in the seat, considered a party stronghold since 1996. By-election.
44 year old wife Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav Alok Shakya, district president of the party’s Mainpuri district unit, told PTI that she would file her nomination at the Mainpuri collectorate on Monday afternoon.
The by-election for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat will be held on December 5 and the results will be declared on December 8.
The filing of nominations for the bypolls has begun and November 17 is the last date for filing nominations.
The Mainpuri parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav on 10 October.
Former Lok Sabha MP from Mainpuri and grandson of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav told reporters in Saifai (Etawah) that the nomination process would be “simple”.
“I think we are going into elections in very difficult times. A month has passed since the death of ‘Netaji’ (Mulayam Singh Yadav), and elections have been announced. (But) we are ready for it. The people of Mainpuri have always shown their dedication towards ‘samajwadi’ (socialist) ideas and taking forward the Samajwadi Party. I am hopeful that we will win this by-election with a huge margin,” said Mr. Tej Pratap Yadav.
Mainpuri parliamentary constituency consists of five assembly constituencies – Mainpuri, Bhongaon, Kishni, Karhal and Jaswant Nagar. In the 2022 assembly elections, the SP won the Karhal, Kishni and Jaswant Nagar seats, while the BJP won the Mainpuri and Bhogaon seats.
Asked about the SP’s defeat in Mainpuri and Bhogaon assembly seats, the former MP said, “There was a margin of around 3,600 in one seat and 5,000 in the other. The numbers are with SP. People here have personal and emotional attachment with Mulayam Singh Yadav. In this election people will forget the old things and vote for SP. Those who did not vote for SP earlier, will vote for SP. Netaji’s party in that,” he said.
Mr. Tej Pratap Yadav said that the people of Mainpuri will give a befitting reply to all those parties which have fielded candidates to support the BJP in this by-election.
The BJP is yet to announce its candidate on the seat, while it is still unclear whether Congress, BSP and Shivpal Yadav’s Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia (PSPL) will contest.
Dimple Yadav lost to BJP candidate Subrata Pathak from Kannauj in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
In 2019, SP Patron Mulayam Singh Yadav He won the seat by a margin of over 94,000 votes over his nearest rival Prem Singh Shakya of BJP.
Akhilesh’s Karhal assembly seat is part of Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency and so is Jaswant Nagar, which is represented by Shivpal Yadav.
Dimple Yadav was elected unopposed to the Lok Sabha from the Kannauj constituency in 2012 after Akhilesh Yadav resigned the seat to become Chief Minister and enter the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
Yadavs form about 35 per cent of the total 12.13 lakh voters in Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, while the rest include Shakyas, Thakurs, Brahmins, Scheduled Castes and Muslims.
