SP delegation meets UP police chief, accuses Azam Khan of harassment

The memorandum alleged that the police was harassing SP leaders ever since the BJP came to power in the state.

Delegation of MLAs Manoj Pandey, Ravidas Mehrotra, Faheem Ahmed and Armaan Khan met the DGP on the instructions of party president Akhilesh Yadav.

A Samajwadi Party delegation on Monday submitted a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police DS Chauhan, alleging that party leader Azam Khan was harassed by the police. Party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said that the delegation of MLAs Manoj Pandey, Ravidas Mehrotra, Faheem Ahmed and Armaan Khan met the DGP on the instructions of party president Akhilesh Yadav.

The memorandum alleged that the SP leaders were being harassed by the police since the BJP came to power in the state and said that the administration should not be allowed to act with vengeance. And his family be harassed by the police and the local administration should be stopped immediately,” it said. Khan, a former Uttar Pradesh minister and sitting SP MLA from Rampur Sadar seat, was booked in around 90 cases on various charges including encroachment, illegal occupation, corruption and theft and was in Sitapur jail for 27 months. He was released on bail in May. Recently another FIR was registered against Khan for threatening the witnesses of a case in Rampur.
