Srichand Parmanand Hinduja, the eldest of the four Hinduja brothers and chairman of the Hinduja Group, passed away in London on Wednesday. He was unwell for some time. He was 87 years old.
The Hinduja family patriarch and his brothers, Gopichand and Prakash, were accused of receiving approximately SEK 81 million in illegal commissions to help Swedish gunmaker AB Bofors secure an Indian government contract. However, a court acquitted him.
A spokesperson for the family said, “It is with great sadness that Gopichand, Prakash, Ashok and the entire Hinduja family today announce the passing of our family patriarch and Chairman of the Hinduja Group, Mr. SP Hinduja.”
A British citizen, he died in London.
