SP spokesperson Abdul Hafiz Gandhi took a dig at the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government and described the move as “desperation”. “The BJP knows very well that it is not returning to power in 2022, so it is registering cases against its political opponents. The Samajwadi Party will not deviate from such acts of political vendetta. We will continue to raise the voice of farmers. It was our right and duty to meet the bereaved families at Lakhimpur Kheri. The government is wrong here,” he said.

Ashish Mishra, the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, has been arrested and sent to jail along with his accomplice Ankit Das and bodyguard.

The opposition parties and farmers’ union are demanding the resignation of Ajay Mishra for a fair investigation into the matter.
