Spain arrives in Bhubaneswar for FIH Pro League tie against India

Spain’s men’s hockey team arrived here on Monday ahead of a two-legged FIH Pro League tie against Olympic bronze medalist India to be played at the city’s Kalinga Stadium on February 26 and 27.

After losing both her opening matches against England earlier this month, the world no. 9 Spain will look to register their first win in this season’s Pro League.

“We are not too worried about the loss against England. We have just started, we have played only two matches, so I will not focus too much on win or loss right now. We were really competitive in our initial matches, and will try to play our brand of hockey against India,” said Spain head coach Max Caldas.

Spain captain Mark Miralles said that he is ready to give India a run in the upcoming matches.

“Despite the loss, I think there were a lot of things that we did very well. So hopefully we will learn from our mistakes and improve on them. We need our first win this Pro League season, so the way we did We have trained, and we believe in what our coaches are telling us to do.”

“In the last few weeks, we have been training a lot, we have watched a lot of games. We know how the Indian team plays, their physical ability and skills, so we want to focus on the matches and we are up for the challenge.

“I think we will have an interesting series against India and hopefully we will win against them,” Mirales said.

The Indian team has won three out of the four matches played so far in the FIH Pro League. The team will play the first home match of the league this season.
