A special police team probing the Kodanad dacoity-cum-murder case on Friday questioned former AIADMK MLA VC Arukutty here.

Inspector General of Police (West Zone) R. Sudhakar said Mr. Arukutty was questioned at the Police Recruitment School (PRS) premises. However, he refused to explain why he was questioned.

Police sources said the former MLA from Kavundampalayam was called to the PRS premises where the questioning began around 11 am.

C. Kanagaraj, who worked as a driver for former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, also worked for Mr. Arukutty. Kanagaraj was killed in an accident in Salem in April 2017, days after the robbery-cum-murder of a security guard at Jayalalithaa’s estate bungalow in Kodanad, Nilgiris. He was a prime suspect in the case.

After Kanagaraj’s death, the Attur police questioned Mr. Arukutty as the former was reportedly in touch with him.

Besides the accused and suspects, the special team had earlier questioned Vivek Jayaraman, nephew of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s aide VK Sasikala, and S Natarajan, manager of the estate bungalow, when armed men entered it. After the killing of the security guard

Sri Arukutty used to be loyal to O Panneerselvam, but extended his support to Edappadi K Palaniswami in July 2017. A rebellious voice in the party after being denied nomination in the last assembly election, Mr. Arukutty had recently said he was sidelined and called for the unification of the AIADMK and AMMK under Ms. Sasikala.
