Special team to probe attack on police personnel in Ernakulam’s Keezhakkambalam

A special team led by Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anuj Paliwal has been formed to probe an alleged attack on police personnel by workers from other states working in a garment factory in Kizhakkambalam on Sunday morning.

Ernakulam Rural Police said that the 19-member team consists of two inspectors and seven sub-inspectors. A total of 156 workers of the factory were detained and kept in three different police stations under Ernakulam rural. Their role, if any, in the attack in which five personnel were injured is being ascertained.

Meanwhile, senior police officials including Deputy Inspector General Neeraj Kumar Gupta and District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) K Karthik visited the scene of the attack near the activists’ camp and took stock of the situation. A total of 500 policemen are camping on the spot. Shri Karthik said that measures would be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Mr. Gupta and Mr. Paliwal met the injured personnel at a private hospital.
