Spectacular underwater video shows diver surrounded by 50 orca whales

A spectacular underwater footage shared on YouTube shows a diver in Norway surrounded by about 50 orcas. It was shot by nature movie photographer Didier Noirot.

The video was taken in Skjrvoy, northern Norway, and posted on Mr Noirot’s YouTube channel, Subimagery Productions Simple. The post’s caption read, “After a 4000km road trip from France to Norway, Didier Noirot meets friends in Skjrvoy. From there they embark on a journey through the fjords on a sailboat to swarm orca and whales. I can feed.”

talking to newsweekNoirot reported that the video was taken back in November when large numbers of orcas flocked through the herring to take advantage of herring escaping from fishing nets. He said he embarked on several long journeys to capture the footage.

“I left France by van taking my ribs to Skjrvoy in northern Norway, where the action takes place. It’s an 8,000 kilometer journey from where I live in France … six days one way trip … Once in Skjrvoy, I rented a 46-foot sailboat… and set off to look for orcas in the fjords. To help me, I asked three friends to join me on the trip,” he told media outlets. told.

In the video, the orca’s dorsal fins can be seen emerging from the water. Fishermen can also be seen in the background as the orca begins to move around the fishing net. Other whale species such as the humpback whale can also be seen joining the feast.

In addition, underwater footage showed dozens of orca swimming deep and holding the remaining fish in their mouths. Mr Noirot said that despite the large amount of orca swimming in the area, “no special preparation” is needed for this type of dive. They told newsweek that “the water is not extremely cold (+42.8-degrees Fahrenheit) and orcas are not dangerous to divers, or to any humans”.

Even in the footage, the orca appears oblivious to Mr. Noirot’s presence. There have been no recorded instances of a wild orca harming a human. According to the outlet, the only known injuries and deaths are related to captive orca.
