SpiceJet has received aviation regulator DGCA’s nod to wet lease five Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for up to six months.

According to the report of news agency PTI, two aircraft of the airline are operating on different routes.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had earlier this month approved wet lease of aircraft. Sources said that the remaining three aircraft will be included in this. SpiceJet fleet in the coming weeks.

SpiceJet No comment on this issue. The airline already has Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in its fleet.

Airlines SpiceJet and Indigo Their proposals to take aircraft on wet lease to meet the growing demand in the winter schedule starting October 30 have been approved.

Under the wet lease arrangement, the aircraft are leased along with the operating crew and engineers.

Generally, wet leasing of aircraft is permitted for a short period to meet supply constraints and to ensure that airfares do not rise significantly.

IndiGo has received DGCA approval for weight leasing wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft, which are largely operated on long and ultra long-haul routes for up to six months.

However, the DGCA rejected the airline’s proposal to keep it in the fleet for two years, saying that the move could lead to diversion of traffic rights by teaming up with a strong foreign carrier that mainly caters to more passengers from India. Together will feed the latter’s hub overseas. Said earlier in the day.

IndiGo sources said the airline has written to the civil aviation ministry seeking an extended tenure for the aircraft that will be taken on wet lease.
