Spotify is discontinuing its Stations app from May 16 in favor of a more detailed Main app

According to a TechCrunch report, music streaming service Spotify has confirmed that its lightweight listening app Spotify Station will no longer be available from May 16. The company said that the app and web player will not be available after this date.

The Stations app was originally designed for people who want a more radio-like experience rather than searching for music or customizing their playlists. Spotify The stations were first launched in Australia in 2018 and later in the US in 2019.

“At Spotify, we regularly conduct many experiments to create a better listening experience for our users,” a spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch. “Some of those tests pave the way for our comprehensive user experience and others only serve as an important learning. Our Spotify Station beta was one of those tests. We will be eliminating the current feature, but user ease and enjoy a similar radio experience directly within the Spotify app,” the spokesperson said.

Spotify hasn’t elaborated on the reason behind its decision to shut down the stations, but has noted that users can continue to listen to all of their favorite stations on the main Spotify app.

The company said that although it doesn’t take Sunset services lightly, Spotify offers a similar listening experience to radio stations so listeners can use that instead.
